Title: fdrlib - the songs
Post by: Lone Ranger on February 15, 2013, 12:59:20 AM
Whenever I hear this song I think of this excellent forum:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxDmsJftkjw (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxDmsJftkjw)

This is what I listen to when I write posts (I adore ATR):

What are your favourite songs?

This tune reminded me of Brubeck's Take Five for some reason. Like a classical adaptation of his famous jazz number (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faJE92phKzI). Anyway, very nice.

Alanis Morissette - Forgiven - Jagged Little Pill (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDVcGKWkmLU#)

You know how us Catholic girls can be
We make up for so much time a little too late
I never forgot it, confusing as it was
No fun with no guilt feelings
The sinners, the saviors, the loverless priests
I'll see you next Sunday

We all had our reasons to be there
We all had a thing or two to learn
We all needed something to cling to
So we did

I sang Alleluia in the choir
I confessed my darkest deeds to an envious man
My brothers they never went blind for what they did
But I may as well have
In the name of the Father, the Skeptic and the Son
I had one more stupid question

We all had our reasons to be there
We all had a thing or two to learn
We all needed something to cling to
So we did

What I learned I rejected but I believe again
I will suffer the consequence of this inquisition
If I jump in this fountain, will I be forgiven
We all had our reasons to be there
We all had a thing or two to learn
We all needed something to cling to
So we did

We all had delusions in our head
We all had our minds made up for us
We had to believe in something
So we did

By the blackened wall
He does it all
He thinks he's died and gone to heaven
Now the tale is told
By the old man back home
He reads the letter
How they are paid in gold
Just to babble in the back room
All night and waste their time
And they wandered in
From the city of St. John without a dime

See the glory

For some reason this morning I had a vision, on hearing this wonderful piece of exuberance on the radio, of all of us here at FDRL, wearing our hand-tooled cuban heel boots and Wrangler jeans  and spread out on the dancefloor in silence with our heads bowed, headed by Tru Shibes, who holds a majorette's baton and wears silver lamé apparel, and then erupting into a perfectly coordinated line dance at about 1.20, raising our right hands in a fisted salute and clasping our left hands over our hearts as Shibes twirls the baton.

In my fevered imagination QE himself would appear from behind the wings at 2.05, radiant in a coat of many colours, wearing the ringmaster's hat and holding the obligatory long whip, marching in time with us all with his hands outstretched (those of us who struggle with line dancing would be issued snare drums, slung around the shoulders, to be struck with great fury and vigour in time with the general proceedings).
As the music fades we once more relapse into silent stillness, heads uplifted this time and with our arms crossed over our chests in a gesture of resolute defiance.

I apologise in advance for my mental condition.

One of my favourites. Thanks for posting that piece - I'd never heard it and it's quite intriguing with that strange off-key pedal throughout.

It was hilarious to watch Molyneux tilt at the video for this song (the original video rather than this remake) - like a lot of his film reviews it really showed him to be someone who struggles to recognise the subtleties (and sometimes the broader brush strokes) of culture.
