Five is really, really hard. And if you ask me tomorrow, I'll bet I'd give you different list! This is what popped out today:

The Ruling Class
Pulp Fiction
Blade Runner (director's cut)
The Dark Knight
Lord of the Rings (I'm cheating--all of them!)
It isn't about winning the debate. It's about the truth.

For me?

1. Donnie Darko
2. Fight Club
3. Requiem For A Dream
4. Magnolia
5. American Beauty

To say that I find these movies "genius" would be an understatement.

Some that come to mind:

Pyscho (the original)
Casino
Jungle Book
The Others
The Fifth Element

and I'm hoping by the end of this year The Hobbit will be my all time favourite!

Any David Lynch fans here?

Inland Empire has to be the best film that I've seen... .. probably.

I'm with Thursday on The 5th Element, definitely also Lord of the Rings, Fight Club I agree with Technodancer is sheer genius but oddly I would never watch it a second time. Then I would have to say the Blues Brothers and ....can't decide on a 5th

Terminator                       (futuristic psychological terror)
High Plains Drifter             (come on it's Clint!)
Scary Movie                      (brilliant send up)
Rambo 1st Blood               (Tormented by war, just a guy who wants to be left alone but also hankers respect and the love of his country)

I hear you m7te, I he@r - Lynch is a genius. He has also released some music, his debut album came out last year and not surprisingly - the music videos are classic Lynch style, here's an example:

Hmmm... it's not easy to pick just 5. Here goes;

 Robin hood(Disney)
 The Road
 The thing(1982)
 Koyaanisqatsi
 Watchmen

On another day they might be completely different but they're some damn fine movies.

Kubrick is the most interesting director in my opinion:

1) Barry Lyndon (overlooked masterpiece; hard to explain in a few sentences)

2) Paths of Glory (the horrors of WWI; the most touching final scene that I know of)

3) Dr. Strangelove (you laugh while being scared to hell)

4) 2001 (the universe and the rest, plus a paranoid computer; the last few minutes are over my head though)

5) Eyes wide shut (Kubrick captures the dreamlike state of Schnitzler's novel)
